Shawna Lake is the Founder of Deep End Talent Strategies, a human resource consulting firm offering full-spectrum HR and talent management services. Shawna is committed to building leader and organizational capacity to drive exceptional employment experiences and help clients win talent in today’s competitive market.
Before launching Deep End Talent Strategies, Shawna served as a member of the MISO leadership team, a large nonprofit organization managing the power grid for 15 states and Manitoba. She was previously the vice president of HR for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, guiding union and non-union staff and helping the largest arts organization in Indiana reach new audiences and improve community well-being through arts education. Her professional background includes leading all aspects of HR and communications with for-profit and nonprofit organizations in the arts, energy, logistics, finance, technology, and advertising.
Through consulting and pro bono service, Shawna has shaped HR practices and leadership capabilities in the environmental sector and architecture and engineering, social services, healthcare, banking, technology security, energy, retail, personal services, construction, manufacturing, life sciences, and start-ups.
In addition to field’s highest professional designations, SPHR and SHRM-SCP, Shawna holds a B.A. in management and organizational communication, an M.A. in executive development for public service, and a graduate certificate in public administration. She is committed to serving the community through volunteerism, as well as contributing to the HR body of knowledge through active involvement at the local, state, and federal levels and speaking engagements with high schools, universities, chambers of commerce, and community groups.
When she’s not working, Shawna is likely watching a soccer game, reading a good book, traveling, or combining all three hobbies at once. Shawna is a native Hoosier who resides with her husband Chris and their teenage son and daughter (and dog Maggie) in Zionsville, Indiana.
