“After leaving the military, I was fortunate to transition into steady employment and never really struggled to find work. What I hadn’t navigated, though, was the disability claims process. After so many years away from the military, I wasn’t informed about how to file for disability or what it meant for me. I had tried to file years ago, but nothing ever came of it.

That changed when I connected with Operation: Job Ready Veterans (OJRV). John Zeigler at OJRV walked me through the entire process, asked all the right questions, and connected me with a Veteran Service Officer who was finally able to file my disability claim properly and get my issues addressed, something I had been trying to accomplish on my own for a couple of years. This helped me have the opportunity to open my own business.

John also learned that my wife and I had renovated a house with the hope of providing reliable housing for other veterans in need. He connected us with the housing coordinator at Volunteers of America to assess our property as a possible solution for veterans needing housing. We were approved, and today we’re proud to be housing deserving veterans as they get back on their feet.
