“The biggest challenges range from being able to project my capabilities and experience to being understood by a civilian company. I have had a great career in the military, but the experience did not translate with equal value. For example, I had over a dozen years of experience in project management, but companies did not give me the value of experience.

The next biggest challenge was the hiring process. The application process, resume writing, interviewing (virtual and in-person) process, luncheon rules, etc., were a massive learning experience.

Lastly, I was challenged to keep a positive attitude. I went from being a leader of leaders to being a candidate with undervalued experience. Mind you, I have an MBA, PMP certification, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification, and more, so I was humbled by the process.
