“One of the biggest hurdles I experienced separating from the Army was translating my military skills and experiences into language that civilian employers could understand and appreciate. In the military, we have our own jargon and terminology, which doesn’t always align with civilian job descriptions. Another challenge was adjusting to the differences in workplace culture. The military operates with a strict hierarchical structure and a strong sense of camaraderie, whereas civilian workplaces can vary greatly in their organizational structures and social dynamics. Finding my place in a new environment took time, but with the help of Kristal Watts, I was able to overcome these challenges.

Kristal was instrumental in updating my resume, providing job market advice, and preparing me for job interviews through OJRV’s comprehensive program. She was a great listener and was patient with me. Her guidance and support helped me secure a position in the insurance industry with State Farm Insurance as an underwriter assistant. I could not have done it without her.

Thanks to OJRV and the Call of Duty Endowment, I received comprehensive support in the form of resume writing skills, interview preparation, and networking opportunities. Their guidance reminded me that the dedication, discipline, and skills cultivated in the military are invaluable assets in the civilian workforce.”
