Brigadier General Wayne Black began his military career in 1984, receiving an ROTC commission from The Citadel in field artillery. He served 11 years on active duty and more than 22 years in the Indiana Army National Guard.

General Black’s active-duty assignments included MLRS Platoon Leader, C Battery, 6-37th FA, Camp Essayons, Korea; Communications Platoon Leader, Battery Executive Officer and Battalion Fire Support Officer, 1-84th FA, Fort Lewis, Washington; and Battalion Fire Support Officer, Battalion S4, Battery Commander and Assistant S3, 2-3 FA, Kirchgoens, Germany. His last assignment on active duty was as a research analyst at TRADOC, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

While serving in the Indiana Army National Guard, he has served as the SGS, 38th Infantry Division; S2, 38th Division Artillery; Battalion Executive Officer, 3-139 FA; G3 and Chief Joint Visitor’s Bureau, Task Force Eagle; S3, 38th Division Artillery; Battalion Commander, 3-139 FA, Commander, Recruit Sustainment Program; Commander, Regional Police Advisory Command – North; Deputy Chief of Staff-G1, JFHQ; Director, Construction and Facilities Maintenance Office; and Assistant Adjutant General – Army and Commanding General, 81st Troop Command.

During his military career, his combat deployments included service in Desert Shield/Storm, Bosnia, and Afghanistan. Additionally, he has served overseas in Korea and Germany.

General Black has a Bachelor of Science in business administration from The Citadel, a Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University, and Master of strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College. His military education includes Field Artillery Officer’s Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Operations Research/Systems Analysis Course, Command and General Staff Officer’s Course, and U.S. Army War College.

General Black’s military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Ranger Tab, and the Parachutist Badge.

General Black is employed at LSC Communication, where he is a manufacturing supervisor. He has worked at LSC Communications for more than 23 years.
