Commander, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department | Board Member

A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Commander Phil Burton has served as commander of the Downtown District of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) since January 2017. In his current position, Commander Burton is responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and assisting in the deployment of approximately 92 officers who serve and protect all who live, work, and visit the Indianapolis downtown area. 

Commander Burton is a veteran of the United States Army Reserves, serving as a drill sergeant from 1990 through 1995 before retiring honorably with the rank of sergeant first class after eight years of service. Thus followed his more than 28-year career in law enforcement.
