Employment Transition Manager – Michigan
Maya serves as the OJRV Employment Transition Manager for Michigan. Her role allows her to assist veterans, service members, and their families who are seeking gainful employment by working with them to overcome employment barriers and build career goals. Maya assists with clients’ transition into civilian employment by providing guidance on networking, interview strategies, and resume writing, and one-on-one coaching.
Maya served honorably in the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist mate for four years. Upon transitioning out of her active-duty role, Maya earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in counseling and human resources from Indiana University. Presently, she is pursuing a Master of Social Work with a clinical concentration from Western Michigan University. She is also an alumna of Purdue University’s Focus Forward Fellowship for student female veterans and currently serves as a coaching mentor for new fellows.
While pursuing higher education, Maya has worked for a non-for-profit hospice and is a certified advance care planning (ACP) facilitator. Maya also served as a part of the We Honor Veteran program recognizing veterans for their service at the end of life. She is currently working within the community at a Michigan county court, where she helps to serve in the adult treatment/sobriety court, mental health court, swift and sure sanctions probation program, and family treatment court.
