Aaron Shaw

Indianapolis Veteran Court, Mentor Coordinator

Aaron Shaw brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the OJRV team. He is a proud Army veteran who enlisted in 2005 and served honorably on active duty at Fort Drum, NY as a heavy equipment mechanic. After he transitioned off active duty in 2008, Aaron found work in construction as a carpenter and has over 15 years of experience in remodeling commercial properties.

Aaron’s passion for helping veterans can be seen every day as he leads several veteran discussion groups and helps others in need of assistance. He is highly committed to helping veterans overcome addiction issues and gives much of his free time each week to achieve that mission. He earned certification as a community health worker (CHW) and as a certified recovery specialist (CRS), and he facilitates multiple Vet-to-Vet meetings each week. Through his frequent interactions, Aaron was honored with his selection as the mentor coordinator for the Indianapolis Veterans Court program. Within this capacity, he ensures that active-duty and veteran participants get structured treatment, close court supervision, and supportive interventions.

When he is not facilitating meetings and bringing food/supplies to area veteran facilities, Aaron loves to explore, travel, and maintain his spiritual health. He loves to grow his network with every experience, which shines through when planning his monthly outings to area lakes and rivers for kayaking. With daily exercise, prayer, and meditation, Aaron brings a calming center to the team at OJRV. Above all, Aaron is the proud father of Bobby McGhee and cherishes every interaction with his son.
