Employment Transition Manager – Indiana
Aaron Shaw brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the OJRV team. He is a proud Army veteran who enlisted in 2005 and served honorably on active duty at Fort Drum, NY as a heavy equipment mechanic. After becoming nationally certified as an emergency medical technician, Aaron deployed in 2006 to Iraq on a recovery team for 15 months and built lifelong friendships with this team. He then transitioned off active duty in 2008 and found work in construction as a carpenter.
Aaron’s passion for helping veterans can be seen every day as he leads several veteran discussion groups and helps others in need of assistance. Through his frequent interaction with the Marion County Veterans Court program, he earned certification as a community health worker (CHW) and as a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS), and he facilitates multiple vet-to-vet meetings around Indianapolis each week.
When he is not facilitating meetings and bringing food and supplies to veterans, Aaron loves to explore, travel, and maintain his spiritual health. He loves to grow and learn with every experience, which shines through when planning his outings to every lake and river for kayaking. With daily exercise, prayer, and meditation, Aaron brings a calming center to the team at OJRV. Above all, Aaron is the proud father of Bobby McGhee and cherishes every interaction with his son.
